playstation 3 backwards compatibility
Any chances that a Playstation 3 package with backwards compatibility will ever be available in Europe?

aka: “A gamers Midsummer’s Night Dream”.
I live in Greece. I already own a PS2 Console and I have a decent PS2 titles collection. I ‘ll probably buy a spare Ps2 Console, because I understand that the duration of a console’s life is limited. Anyway it would had been great to have a PS3 bc, as an all in one package (both retro and new generation games), without hundrends of cables. Maybe I too, if I did actually had purchased the 60GB PS3, that I wouldn’t care for the Ps2 Games either. Who knows, I guess I ‘ll never know.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I would also like to say that I’m dissapointed with some people’s desigions and market policies, you all know what I mean, I don’t want to go any further…

The only ones that DON’T have BC is the 40gb, the newer version of the 80gb and the new 160gb. The 20gb {which doesn’t have a lot of features and is out of production}, the 60gb {not in production} and the older 80gb version {which still is in production despite how I said it was older} all have BC. I suggest getting the 60gb because the 20gb lacks a lot of features while the 80gb uses software emulation which is software designed to be compatible with PS2 games but the 60gb has a chip {Emotion Engine} which is a lot better because it can play ALL PS2 games while the software emulation can only play about 70%. To see what games are good on the 80gb version go here http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus. But you can still get PS3s in Europe right? So then just ask if they have a 60gb or 80gb {older} PS3 or if worst comes to worst, a 20gb.

With the PlayStation3 120GB system, you get free PlayStation Network membership, built-in Wi-Fi and 120GB of hard disk drive storage for games, music, videos and photos. And every PS3 system comes with a built-in Blu-ray player to give you pristine picture quality and the best high-definition viewing experience available. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 120GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike The some other models of The PlayStation 3, The 120GB system does not offer backwards compatibility. PlayStation 3 utilizes The Blu-ray disc media format, which gives you The best high-definition viewing experience on your television, by way of The format’s ability to hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This tremendous capacity, combined with The awesome power of The system’s processor
